CONGRATULATIONS BEN!

Ben has now been selected to represent Queensland at the National Games in Launceston in October 2022. Hopefully he will play so well that he will again be selected to represent Australia in 2023 in Berlin. Look out for our upcoming raffle and help us raise some money for Ben to travel to Tasmania!

“Ben Hart registered with Special Olympics Queensland and its umbrella organization Special Olympics Australia more than 20 years ago. Initially he joined the soccer team but when his coach moved to coaching the bocce team, Ben decided to give bocce a try. Every Thursday night a group of up to 20 athletes train at the Italian Bocce Club in Newmarket. This is the Brisbane branch of the Special Olympics. Throughout the year there are regional competitions held at Redlands, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

It is from these competitions that athletes are chosen to represent their state at the National Games. In 2018 Ben was selected to represent Queensland at the National Games in Adelaide.

He played so well during these games that he was selected to represent Australia in Abu Dhabi in the World Games in 2019. Teams from all over the world came to play 32 Olympic type sports. Ben played Bocce individual, pairs and teams games and won every game he played.

Ben stood on the medal podium 3 times and returned home with 3 gold medals! This was certainly a highlight of his life and he continues to proudly wear his green and gold Australia uniform whenever he has the opportunity.

Ben has now been selected to represent Queensland at the National Games in Launceston in October 2022. Hopefully he will play so well that he will again be selected to represent Australia in 2023 in Berlin.

Ben is a fantastic bocce player, he is an enthusiastic team member and kind and funny guy. He is well worth supporting in this venture that adds so much quality to his life”
